So you want to be a Union member...

Smart decision! Here's how:

To join with the thousands of workers who have decided to improve their lives and the lives of their families by becoming members of UFCW Local 1546, you must follow a few basic steps. Here's how the process works...

1.Contact a Local 1546 Organizer (in strict confidence at 847-593-3500) to voice your interest in joining the union.

2. Sign a union authorization card, indicating your interest. At least 30% of the employees at your workplace must sign these cards in order for the process to continue.

3. Vote, by secret ballot, in the union representation election. In order for the union to be declared the collective bargaining for your workplace, a majority of employees who vote must vote for union representation.

4. Complete and return the questionnaire mailed to you by the union collective bargaining department. This is your opportunity to express your wishes about what you'd like to see addressed in your union contract.

5. Keep informed and be supportive during the contract negotiation process. Throughout the course of the meetings with your employer, your collective bargaining committee including rank and file members, is working hard on your behalf to gain the best contract possible for you.

6. Vote on the tentative contract agreement presented to you by your committee. More than a 50% majority of voting members are required to ratify your union contract.
